On April 18, 2025, the "International Forum on Chemical Innovation Development under Energy Security & Innovation Seminar of the State Key Laboratory of Heavy Oil Processing (Phase I)", hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Heavy Oil Processing, was successfully held at the Tangdao Bay Campus of China University of Petroleum (East China). This forum is themed around "The Development Direction of Fossil Energy under International Energy Security", it brought together renowned experts and scholars from the domestic chemical industry, jointly explore the efficient utilization of fossil energy, technological innovation, talent cultivation, and the high-quality development of disciplines.
At the opening ceremony, Hao Zhijie, the Party Secretary of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, attended the event and delivered a speech, Tian Yuanyu, the director of the National Key Laboratory of Heavy Oil, introduced the latest development achievements, research layout and future plans of the laboratory to the guests present at the meeting. Chen Xiaobo, the vice dean of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, then introduced the basic situation of the college in terms of discipline construction, establishment of scientific research platforms, and talent cultivation system.
During the section for invited expert presentations, Professor Wang Baojun from Taiyuan University of Technology delivered a lecture entitled "Design of Halogen-Free Multi-phase Catalysts for the Addition Reaction of CO2 and Ethylene Oxide and the Catalytic Process", an innovative catalytic solution for the utilization of carbon dioxide resources was proposed; Professor Peng Chong from Dalian University of Technology presented "Progress in Highly Selective Hydrogenation Conversion Technology", The creation ideas for hydrogenation cracking catalysts suitable for gradual reactions of hydrocarbons were introduced; Professor Chang Chunran from Xi'an Jiaotong University conducted a cutting-edge exploration of the emerging concept of "blocked catalysis", the series of reports were detailed and sparked intense discussions at the scene. In the future, the laboratory plans to hold this series of forums on a regular basis, continuously provide strong academic support for the rapid development of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering as well as the National Key Laboratory of Heavy Oil, in the field of energy and chemical engineering.
