From April 12th to 16th, the 22nd Global Process Safety Conference was grandly held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, the United States, with more than 3,000 delegates attended the conference. The Safety, Environmental Protection and Energy Conservation Technology Center of China University of Petroleum (East China) undertook the China session of the Global Process Safety Conference. The China Occupational Safety and Health Association, the China Chemical Safety Association, and Wanhua Chemical Group have provided strong support for the hosting of the sub-conference.

Professor Zhao Fengdong from our institute and Chen Yifeng, the senior vice president of Wanhua Chemical Group, served as the chairperson of the sub-meeting, WanHua Chemical Group's senior process safety expert Pu Jianwu and our school's teacher Meng Yifei served as the vice chairpersons of the conference, more than 100 experts from both China and abroad attended the China branch of the event, including Shakeel H. Kadri, the Executive Director and CEO of AIChE-CCPS, Louisa A. Nara, the former technical director of CCPS, Scott Berg, the former executive director of CCPS, Matías A. Massello, the chairperson of the Global Process Safety Conference, Chen Yifeng, the senior vice president of Wanhua Chemical, and James Sneddon, the chief consultant and director of the US region of Risktec Solutions.

On behalf of the team, Professor Liu Yi from our institute, delivered a presentation entitled "Progress in Process Safety in China-2025", which introduced the main progress made by China in the field of process safety over the past year from multiple aspects such as standard release, talent cultivation, book publishing, conference organization, and so on.

James Sneddon, the chief consultant and director of the US region of Risktec Solution, delivered a presentation titled "Transition from Compliance-driven PSM to Risk-based and Performance-driven PSM", which introduced the main differences between compliance driven PSM and performance-driven PSM, as well as the strategies for transitioning from compliance driven PSM to risk-based and performance-driven PSM.

Zhou Chao, a senior expert from Qingdao Ousais Technology Development Group, delivered a presentation titled "A Quantitative Simplified Method for Assessing PSM in Chemical Plants", this paper introduced the systematic assessment method developed by Qingdao Ousais Technology Development Group, which focuses on the core elements and is designed to meet the current rapid improvement needs of PSM levels in Chinese enterprises.

Pu Jianwu, the chief process safety expert of Wanhua Chemical Group, and He Bin, the senior HSE expert, jointly delivered a presentation entitled "Practices and Thoughts on Improving the Quality of Process Safety Accident Investigations", the unique incident reporting and investigation system of Wanhua Chemical was introduced.

Yuan Yaqun, a senior expert from the China Chemical Safety Association, delivered a presentation entitled "Strengthening Process Safety Management and Enhancing Risk Identification Capabilities", the report conducted an in-depth analysis of 145 major and above accidents in China's chemical industry, the core issues in the current process safety management system were identified, and systematic improvement measures were proposed.

The article entitled "Case Analysis of Flash Explosion Accident in Membrane-Based Oil Vapor Recovery System" jointly authored by Wu Baichun, Xu Zhongxuan and others from the Safety and Environmental Protection Technology Research Institute of China National Petroleum Corporation systematically expounds the investigation and analysis process of an accident, providing an excellent example of how to conduct accident investigations effectively.

The Global Process Safety Conference is currently the largest-scale, most comprehensive in theme, and most influential international conference in the field of process safety worldwide. Up to now, our university has successfully hosted the Chinese section of 14 conferences. After the meeting, Professor Zhao Fengdong's team and the American Chemical Engineers Association conducted in-depth discussions on various matters, including jointly hosting the 9th Global Summit on Process Safety with our university at the end of October, and reached consensus on the themes of the conference, the themes of the sub-conferences, and the schedule. The Global Symposium on Process Safety (GSPS) is one of the most influential international conferences on process safety held globally, which was founded by the Chemical Process Safety Center of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE-CCPS). It has been held in several countries including Singapore, Japan, India, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates. This will be the first time that this conference is held in China.

Our school has been cooperating with the Chemical Process Safety Center of the American Chemical Engineers Association since 2006, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a deep partnership. Over the past 20 years, our school has carried out PSM training, organized international conferences, translated and adapted CCPS monographs, and conducted specialized research on PSM, etc, they have made significant contributions to the formulation of process safety regulations and policies in our country, the construction of process safety resources, the development of process safety technologies, and the training of chemical safety talents, it has established a high level of reputation and influence in both the international and domestic chemical safety fields.
