On February 5th, the award ceremony for the 2025 Northern Kun Young Scientists Award was held in Beijing, professor Chai Yongming from our institute has been awarded the "Northern Kun Young Scientist Shortlist Award".

Chai Yongming, professor, doctoral supervisor, deputy director of the National Key Laboratory of Heavy Oil, and a top talent in Qingdao. He has been dedicated to research in fields such as catalytic hydrogenation, catalytic hydrogen production, and resource recycling in chemical engineering, developed a completely new suspension-bed hydrogenation regeneration process for waste lubricating oil, achieved "full utilization and efficient disposal", contributing to the green development of the waste lubricant industry; proposed the "internal-external combination, dual regulation "in-situ reconstruction strategy, realize the controllable construction of catalytic active sites under high current conditions, solved the problems of optimizing the microscopic structure and achieving industrial stability of non-precious metal electrolyte water catalysts; invented the process technology for synthesizing isophorone through gas-phase catalytic condensation of acetone, the green continuous synthesis has been achieved, solving problems such as low yield and difficulty in treating waste liquid. In the past five years, he has been responsible for 4 national and provincial-level key research projects as well as 5 million-yuan-level university-enterprise cooperation projects. In addition, the core patented technology has been successfully implemented and transformed in multiple enterprises; had received the first prize for scientific and technological achievements at the provincial and ministerial level three times, which made positive contributions to the green and low-carbon transformation of the chemical industry.

The "Northern Kun Youth Scientist Award" is funded by Binhua Group and jointly initiated and established by the World Young Scientists Federation. This award is oriented towards the future and values potential, focus on high-end chemical engineering, new materials, new energy, bio-medicine, high-end equipment manufacturing, and artificial intelligence, etc; devoted to cultivating young scientists with disruptive innovation capabilities and built an ecological system that empowers industrial development through technology. A total of 5 Northern Kun Young Scientists Awards, 10 Northern Kun Young Scientists Potential Awards, and 8 Northern Kun Young Scientists Shortlisted Awards were awarded in this round.
