Gold Medal Breakthrough! College Wins Gold at China International College Students’ Innovation Competition (2025)

The national finals of the China International College Students' Innovation Competition (2025) were held at Zhengzhou University from October 12 to 15. Under the guidance of Professors Zeng Jingbin, Wang Zhaoxing, Cao Wei, Wen Congying and Yan Zifeng from our institute, The project led by Ren Xuqian, a 2021 undergraduate majoring in Chemical Safety, is titled "Quick Detection of Edible Fungi - A New Generation of Three-Mode Rapid Detection Instrument for Foodborne Pathogenic Bacteria",Outstandingly standing out in the intense competition on the main track, Won the gold medal in the national final of the undergraduate creative group competition, We have achieved a significant breakthrough in the innovation and entrepreneurship education of our institution.

The event standards have reached new heights, with global innovative forces competing on the same stage. The China International University Students' Innovation Competition (2025) is jointly organized by 12 national departments including the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Henan Province, It is currently the largest and most widely covered platform for college students' innovation and practice in the world. This year's competition, under the theme "I Dare to Venture, I Will Create," attracted tens of thousands of projects and over a hundred thousand college students from more than 150 countries and regions.The "Fungi Rapid Testing" project won the gold medal at the national competition after going through three rounds of competition: the school-level preliminary round, the provincial semi-final, and the national final.

The instructor, Zeng Jingbin, said after the competition: “I guided the 'Fungi Rapid Testing' team to win the gold medal, For me, the greatest joy is not the award itself, Instead, it witnessed the transformation and growth of the students during the project's training process. The success of the project stems from their own persistent efforts and outstanding talents. As a mentor, my role is more of a 'companion' and 'guide,' accompanying them from technological breakthroughs to market insights, witnessing their continuous enhancement in problem-solving skills and constant optimization in project implementation. This has been an invaluable training opportunity for the students, and I hope they will continue to progress in their future studies and lives, reaching all their desired goals." Project leader Ren Xuqian stated after the competition: "Progressing step by step from the university-level competition to the national finals, the rewards gained along this journey far surpass the joy of winning the national gold medal—they include the confidence and conviction to explore infinite future possibilities. The college has always placed great emphasis on the cultivation of students' innovative and entrepreneurial abilities, since its establishment, the college has, with the joint support of teachers and students and under the guidance of the school's concerns, carry out extensive publicity and mobilization, deeply explore the project, and actively organize participation in the school competition, and encourage students to form teams across different colleges, majors and disciplines, to promote the integration of disciplines and industry education, continuously optimize the talent cultivation model, and enhance the quality of talent cultivation. During the preparation process, the college actively carried out team reorganization, training refinement, and intensive training to enhance capabilities, further enhance the quality of the project. During the preparation period, the college actively promoted the successful experiences and typical cases from previous years through methods such as experience sharing and training lectures, coordinate the establishment of the team, project training, provincial competition review, provincial competition refinement, and national competition training, etc, organized over 100 sessions of various types of training, with the aim of significantly improving the quality of the projects. Ultimately, with the joint efforts of the entire college, the college won one gold medal in the national finals (the only one among all the schools), in the Shandong Province competition, we won 4 gold awards and 3 silver awards, and the number of awards ranked first in the entire school.
