

On September 26th, the 2025 Annual Academic Committee Meeting of the National Key Laboratory for Chemical Safety was held in Beijing. As the second supporting unit of the laboratory, China University of Petroleum (East China) attaches great importance to the strategic supporting role of laboratories,Professor Dai Caili, the vice principal, attended the meeting and delivered a speech,Dai Caili fully affirmed the positive role of the laboratory in supporting national strategies, serving industry demands, and cultivating high-level talents,It is emphasized that the school will continue to support the high-quality development of the laboratories by leveraging its disciplinary strengths and human resources.
The meeting was chaired by Cao Xianghong, the director of the Laboratory Academic Committee and a Chinese Academy of Engineering fellow. The members of the academic committee present at the meeting included Academician Tu Shandong, Academician Fan Weicheng, Academician Gao Jinji, Academician Sun Lili, Academician Zhang Laibin, Professor Jiang Juncheng, Professor Wang Haoshui, Researcher Yang Chao, and Professor Sun Jinhua, etc,at the same time, leaders from the supervisory authorities and the industry also attended the discussion. Professor Yang Zhe, the director of the laboratory and the president of Sinopec Safety Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd, Professor Xu Wei, Professor Zeng Jingbin, Professor Zhang Xiancheng and other leaders and key researchers from the affiliated institutions attended the meeting.
Xu Wei gave a comprehensive report on the laboratory work, It introduced the overall progress of the laboratory's construction, the key technologies' research and development, as well as the industry support and leadership efforts, reported the next key work plan. The academic leaders of the laboratory respectively presented the progress of their work in the following areas: the intrinsic safety regulation of the oxidation process, the design of hydrogen-resistant materials to resist damage, the detection of micro-defects in pipelines, the emergency fire protection for electrochemical energy storage, and the intelligent sensing of leakage risks.
The experts present had an in-depth discussion on the research direction and operation mechanism of the laboratory, it is suggested to further focus on the major national demands and the key concerns of enterprises, accelerate the development of comprehensive solutions in areas such as targeted inhibition of process disasters, assessment of equipment aging risks, safety of hydrogen and energy storage, and protection of oil and gas storage and transportation facilities like liquefied hydrocarbon spherical tanks. The experts unanimously encouraged the laboratory to further enhance the interdisciplinary integration in cutting-edge fields such as intelligent sensing, artificial intelligence and new materials, create distinctive technological achievements with international competitiveness.
Next, the National Key Laboratory for Chemical Safety will focus on supporting the national strategy, the mission orientation focusing on high-level basic research, applied technology research and frontier technology research, formulate a "15th Five-Year" strategic plan, closely focusing on the transformation and upgrading of industries brought about by technological innovations, accelerate major original innovations and breakthroughs in key core technologies; Promote and facilitate major project cooperation with the partner organizations, Attract and cultivate outstanding scientific and technological talents, effectively build a national scientific and technological innovation base that features a high concentration of advantageous resources, significant cross-disciplinary integration, and prominent supporting role.
