On August 23rd, the "Green Low-Carbon Development and Transformation of the Chemical Industry - Disciplinary Development Forum of the Chemical and Chemical Engineering College of China University of Petroleum (East China)" was held in Qingdao. Sun Lili, Xie Zaiku, Xu Chunming, Zeng Hongbo and other academicians from home and abroad attended the conference. More than 80 experts and scholars from nearly 40 universities and research institutions including Tsinghua University, Tianjin University and Dalian University of Technology participated in the event. Academician Hao Fang, the president of our university, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

President Hao Fang recounted the arduous journey and outstanding contributions of Petroleum University as it moved through three cities and underwent four rounds of entrepreneurship. In particular, she highlighted the significant measures taken to promote the school's high-quality development with the "Double First-Class" initiative as the catalyst, First, we will make every effort to resolve historical legacy issues that hinder the development of the university, such as the reform of affiliated enterprises and the transfer of registration locations. Second, we will optimize the layout of disciplines and majors to enhance the university's ability to serve the national energy strategy and the economic and social development. Third, we have established a series of high-end platforms including national key laboratories, national engineering research centers, "Belt and Road" joint laboratories, and basic science centers. Through the integration of science and education, we aim to improve the quality of talent cultivation and the ability of scientific and technological innovation. Fourth, we have built the Jianguo Kou new campus, laying a solid foundation for the construction of a century-old prestigious university. Hao Fang pointed out that the chemical engineering discipline is one of the most highly valued disciplines at the university, bearing the dual missions of serving the national energy strategy and serving the economic and social development of Shandong Province. Against the backdrop of the upcoming conclusion of the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the accelerated transformation of the chemical industry, she hopes that through this forum, the discipline of chemical engineering can achieve higher-level talent cultivation and scientific and technological innovation.

The participating academicians and experts delivered excellent reports on the technical paths and disciplinary development for green and low-carbon transformation, focusing on areas such as process optimization, energy efficiency improvement, new processes driven by green electricity, green catalysis and interface science, and sharing their latest thoughts and practices. Chinese Academy of Engineering member Sun Lili delivered a report titled "The Path of Green and Low-Carbon Transformation in China's Petrochemical and Chemical Industry", suggesting that universities should strengthen collaboration with enterprises to jointly tackle challenges and promote the implementation of process optimization and energy efficiency improvement technologies,Professor Xu Chunming, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor at China University of Petroleum (Beijing), expounded on the new concept of green electricity-driven processes in his presentation titled "New Processes in Chemical Engineering Driven by Green Electricity". He emphasized the importance of strengthening basic research and enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration. Professor Zeng Hongbo, an academician of the Canadian Engineering Academy and the Royal Academy of Sciences, and a professor at the University of Alberta, presented a topic titled "Molecular Forces and Interface Effects in Resource Production", revealing the mechanism of interactions among oil, water, and solids at the microscopic level and proposing to empower process enhancement through interface regulation. Professor Tian Yu from our university, in his presentation titled "Prospects and Practices of Energy Chemical Technology under Carbon Neutrality Constraints", introduced the technological progress and application results of the team in the field of energy and chemical engineering, fully demonstrating the technical strength of the university.

During the academic discipline development discussion session, Liu Xinmei, the dean of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, delivered a report on the discipline's development, providing a comprehensive overview of the current status and challenges of the college. More than 30 experts and scholars in the field of chemical engineering engaged in in-depth exchanges and offered suggestions and strategies to jointly promote the high-quality development of the chemical discipline.
