From August 22nd to 24th, the 12th National Symposium on Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics Teaching and Disciplinary Development, organized by the Higher Education Committee for Chemical Engineering Disciplines of the Ministry of Education and hosted by the College of Chemistry and Bioengineering of Shandong University of Science and Technology, was held in Qingdao. Professor Song Chunmin from our university participated in this symposium and delivered a report titled "Application of Cases in Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics Teaching", sharing the organization of comprehensive case-based courses and the improvement of students' ability to analyze problems through case-based teaching. This approach enables students to master the basic theories while enhancing their comprehensive analytical skills. The report received unanimous praise from the participants.
The conference conducted in-depth discussions on core topics such as teaching research and application frontiers of chemical thermodynamics. It provided a high-level platform for the teaching innovation and scientific research development of the chemical thermodynamics course in the era of artificial intelligence. It effectively promoted in-depth cooperation among domestic peers and will drive the construction and teaching reform of our college's chemical thermodynamics course to achieve higher levels and better quality.
More than 100 experts and scholars specializing in chemical thermodynamics from 60 universities across the country attended the conference. Professors Liu Youzhi from North China University, Xia Shuqian from Tianjin University, Lu Xiaohua from Nanjing University of Technology, Liu Zhimin from the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Liu Honglai from East China University of Science and Technology, Chen Guangjin from China University of Petroleum (Beijing), Tong Zhangfa from Guangxi University, Zhong Qin from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Liang Zhiwu from Hunan University, and Guo Xueqiang from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) delivered invited reports at the conference. The conference also set up two sub-venues: one for teaching discussions on chemical thermodynamics, and the other for exploring the latest advancements in chemical thermodynamics research and applications. A total of 31 invited presentations were organized. The convening of this seminar has showcased the latest achievements in the teaching and academic research of chemical thermodynamics, and it holds significant importance for deepening teaching reforms, promoting interdisciplinary integration, and driving the innovative development of the field of chemical thermodynamics in China.
