Our college students achieved excellent results in the 16th Shandong Province College Students' Chemistry Experiment Competition

From July 18th to 21st, the "16th Shandong Province College Students' Chemistry Experiment Competition and the Symposium on Chemistry Experiment Teaching and Laboratory Construction in Shandong Universities" was held in Zibo. This event was jointly organized by six departments including the Shandong Provincial Association for Science and Technology, the Shandong Provincial Department of Education, the Communist Youth League of Shandong Province, the Shandong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Shandong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, and the Shandong Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security. It was also co-organized by the Shandong Chemical and Chemical Engineering Society and Shandong University of Technology.

A total of 127 students and their team instructors from 30 universities and 32 teams in the province participated in this competition. The students from our school who represented us in the competition, namely Yu Wenfan and Wang Ankang from the Chemistry Department of Grade 23, won the first prize, while He Jixiang and Jiao Kaishuan won the second and third prizes respectively. The competition consists of multiple stages including virtual simulation operation, theoretical computer-based examination, and experimental operation examination. It focuses on evaluating the students' mastery and comprehensive abilities in chemical experiment principles, factual knowledge and process knowledge, chemical experiment operation norms, chemical experiment safety and environmental protection. Based on the comprehensive ranking, the first, second and third prizes were ultimately determined.

During the competition, a "Seminar on Chemical Experiment Teaching and Laboratory Construction in Higher Education Institutions of Shandong Province" was also held. Experts, leaders and instructors from universities across the province and other regions attended the seminar. Experts from universities such as Sun Yat-sen University, Nanjing University, Shandong University and Dalian University of Technology delivered keynote speeches on the construction of chemistry experiment courses and the reform of chemistry experiments under the background of artificial intelligence, and had in-depth on-site exchanges with the participants.

The "Shandong Province College Students' Chemistry Experiment Competition" was initiated in 2009 and is an important event of the "Shandong Province College Students' Science and Technology Festival". So far, it has been held for sixteen sessions. It is one of the earliest and most influential provincial-level chemistry experiment competitions in the country, and it is also the provincial selection competition for the national college students' chemistry experiment competition. It has become an important platform for showcasing and exchanging the achievements of chemistry experiment teaching and the experience of experiment teaching reform and construction in our province.
