From April 6 to 10, the 21st Global Conference on Process Safety was grandly held at the Hilton Hotel in Dallas, USA, attracting over 3,000 participants. The China University of Petroleum (East China) Safety, Environmental Protection, and Energy Conservation Technology Center, in collaboration with the China Chemical Safety Association, co-hosted the China Session of the conference. The China Occupational Safety and Health Association (COSHA) and Wanhua Chemical Group provided strong support for the event.


Professor Zhao Dongfeng from our college served as the chairperson of the sub-forum. Pu Jianwu, a senior expert in process safety from Wanhua Chemical Group, and Teacher Meng Yifei from our college were the vice-chairpersons. Shakeel H. Kadri, the Executive Director and CEO of AIChE-CCPS, Louisa A. Nara, the former Technical Director of CCPS, Scott Berg, the former Executive Director of CCPS, Eduardo Francisco, the chairperson of the global process safety forum, Yang Zhe, the president of Sinopec Safety Engineering Research Institute, Yong Ruisheng, the vice president of China National Petroleum Corporation Safety and Environmental Protection Technology Research Institute, Hao Jun, the deputy secretary-general of China Chemical Safety Association, and over 150 other experts from China and abroad attended the Chinese sub-forum.


Associate Professor Chen Qiang from our college delivered a presentation titled "Progress in Process Safety in China - 2024" on behalf of the team. He introduced the major progress made in the field of process safety in China over the past year from multiple aspects such as the establishment of research institutions, the release of standards, talent cultivation, book publication, and conference organization. He also proposed the future work plans and key research directions.

Dr. Zhao Guibing, the CEO of the Prime Process Safety Center in the United States, delivered a presentation titled "An Integrated Approach to Reaction Hazard Analysis: Integrating Scenario-Based Assessment and Prediction Tools", introducing aspects such as scenario-based reaction hazard analysis, reaction kinetics research tools, and dynamic simulation for consequence quantification.

Li Yan, a senior expert from the China Chemical Safety Association, delivered a presentation titled "The Process Safety Assessment System of the China Chemical Safety Association (CCSA)", introducing the main framework and practical situation of the process safety assessment system developed by CCSA.

Louisa A. Nara, the former executive technical director of the Chemical Process Safety Center of the American Chemical Society, delivered a presentation titled "Across the Age Divide: Drawing Accident Experience from Diverse Teams", highlighting the differences in thinking patterns and learning methods among various age groups, and based on this, discussing how to conduct effective training and accident investigations in diverse teams.

Vice President Duan Weichao of Qingdao Ousais Technology Development Group, on behalf of the China Occupational Safety and Health Association, delivered a report titled "Research on Safety Risks of Volatile Organic Compounds Treatment Facilities in Petrochemical Enterprises", focusing on explaining the safety risks existing in the operation of volatile organic compounds treatment facilities in petrochemical enterprises and proposing targeted suggestions and measures.

Dr. Cao Xinyi from the Safety and Environmental Technology Research Institute of China National Petroleum Corporation delivered a presentation titled "Common Correction Factors Used in Safety Integrity Level Analysis", discussing the necessity, quantitative methods, usage conditions, and current main issues of using correction factors in the process of safety integrity level analysis.


The Global Process Safety Conference is the largest-scale, most comprehensive in theme, and most influential international conference in the field of industrial process safety worldwide. Up to now, our university has participated in 20 consecutive sessions and successfully held 13 sub-conferences in China. The successful convening of the China sub-conference of this Global Process Safety Conference has further enhanced the international reputation of China University of Petroleum (East China) in the field of chemical process safety, and also raised the school's influence in the domestic field of chemical process safety.
