Alumnus Yang Tao won SPE Lester C. Uren Award for Technical Excellence in 2023

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has announced the winners of the 2023 SPE International Awards. The SPE Lester C. Uren Award for Technical Excellence was awarded to Yang Tao, an alumnus of the class of 1987 majoring in applied chemistry. The award is one of the three SPE technical awards, and Yang Tao is the first Chinese to win the award.



Yang Tao graduated from our college in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in Applied Chemistry. He is currently a senior technical specialist at Equinor, a Norwegian energy giant, and Vice Chairman of the National Centre for Sustainable Use of Energy Resources on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS2030). He is a distinguished Lecturer of the Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPE) and a member of the editorial board of Reservoir Evaluation and Engineering (SPE Journal) and Geoenergy Science and Engineering (Elsevier journals). He has won the Honorable Mention Award of the Norwegian Academy of Engineering, the SPE North Sea Reservoir Engineering Technology Award, the SPE Outstanding Technical Editor Award, and the SPE Outstanding Member Award. He was elected a member of the Norwegian Academy of Engineering in 2021.
