Recently, the crude oil catalytic cracking to olefin (UPC) complete set technology developed by the chemical reaction engineering research team of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, together with Shandong Dongming Petrochemical Group Co., LTD., and Shanghai Zhuoran Engineering Technology Co., LTD., passed the scientific and technological achievement appraisal organized by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. Experts agreed that the technology has independent intellectual property rights, the special metal oxide catalyst developed by the world's first, the overall technology has reached the international leading level.

After more than 10 years of research, the technology overcame series problems of the catalysts, reactor, regenerator afterburning and completed pilot tests. In August 2020, Shandong Dongming Petrochemical Group Co., LTD., and Shanghai Zhuoran Engineering Technology Co., LTD. were granted the crude oil catalytic cracking ethylene propylene (UPC) technology to industrial test and the promotion of the license agreement for joint construction of industrial test equipment, open up catalytic cracking technology to ethylene propylene market at home and abroad.
